A roadmap is a plan with short-term and long-term goals. An opportunity roadmap outlines how you will engage with opportunities in the short-term and long- term.

Your quality of life today is directly proportional to the quality of opportunities that you are currently engaged in. The quality of your future life will be directly proportional to the quality of opportunities that you will engage in – in the future.

Typically, most people engage in opportunities as a reaction to something that happens to them in their life. In fact, most of them won’t even notice that they have a “choice” on what opportunities they can engage in. This happens especially in the corporate world when you are given a series of projects one after the other and not all of them are in alignment with where you are going.

You could change all that – but not without a plan.

I guess at this point in time, you will be thinking that I will talk about having a five-year plan and then a three-year plan and then a one- year plan and finally a one-week plan.

What is a meaningful and relevant project?

A meaningful project is one that is in an area that is close to your heart and one whereby, engaging in that project you are growing everyday. The relevant project is one where the marketplace places a value on what the project is going to create. A combination of the two is where the magic takes place.

Who are cool people?

Cool people are those that you enjoy working with and those people who by working together are increasing the capacity of everyone in the team.
Yes, you need long term goals and ambition, but none of that matters if you don’t take care of something that is happening RIGHT NOW.

Think about it.

Are you currently working on meaningful and relevant projects and are you working with cool people?

If not, this is the time to take a serious look at what you are doing as NOW is all you have got to move towards the future that you want to create.

Not to forget, if you want to work on meaningful and relevant projects with cool people tomorrow, the foundation for that has to be laid today. You need to build relationships with tomorrow’s cool people today, so that when the time comes, they engaging with you to work on projects will be a no-brainer.

With that in the back of your mind, let us look at how you can be a bigger opportunity for others today.
